As a Hardware Project Manager at PassiveLogic, you will lead complex hardware development projects from concept through design, validation, manufacturing, and product launch. You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, translate technical objectives into executable plans, and ensure products are delivered on schedule while meeting performance, quality, cost, and customer requirements.
What you’ll do
Lead hardware projects from concept through production: Create and maintain integrated project plans covering requirements, architecture, prototyping, design reviews, engineering builds, validation, certification, manufacturing readiness, and product launch.
Drive cross-functional engineering execution: Align electrical, mechanical, firmware, software, systems, test, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams around shared milestones, dependencies, and deliverables.
Help engineering teams move forward when complexity slows progress: Use your technical understanding to identify roadblocks, close gaps, facilitate decisions, and keep development moving. Approach problem-solving with a bias for action and a data-driven methodology, making sound decisions even when information is incomplete.
Manage technical and operational risk: Surface schedule, design, supply chain, cost, quality, certification, and manufacturing risks early. Establish mitigation plans, assign clear ownership, and drive issues through resolution.
Coordinate prototype and production builds: Partner with engineering, sourcing, suppliers, and manufacturing teams to plan builds, confirm readiness, manage material constraints, track issues, and apply lessons to subsequent development cycles.
Give teams the visibility they need to make good decisions: Clearly communicate plans, progress, goals, decisions, and roadblocks to stakeholders, producing reporting artifacts that enable sound decision-making.

You must have
• Proven experience:
5+ years of experience in hardware project, engineering program, or new product introduction management.
Experience guiding multidisciplinary hardware teams through multiple stages of the product development lifecycle.
Experience using multiple project and program management techniques and understanding when to apply each methodology, including waterfall, agile, Kanban, stage-gate, or hybrid approaches.
• Hardware development knowledge: A strong working understanding of hardware development, including requirements, prototyping, design reviews, engineering changes, verification and validation, manufacturing readiness, and product release.
• Exceptional Communication Skills: You excel at articulating the “what” and “why” behind technical and project decisions, ensuring team members grasp both high-level objectives and execution details. You communicate with clarity and precision across engineering, operations, suppliers, and leadership.
• Organized and strategic: Skilled in creating project roadmaps, managing critical paths and timelines, coordinating dependencies, and ensuring deliverables meet technical, business, quality, and customer expectations.
• Collaborative mindset: Work closely with electrical, mechanical, firmware, software, systems, test, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, product, and customer-facing teams to deliver an integrated product.
Adaptability: Comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment, eager to learn, iterate, and innovate.
Problem solving: You own this role. When issues arise, be the empowered force that solves them, rolling-up.
You should have
• Experience shipping hardware products: Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver physical products in a complex, cross-functional engineering environment.
• Strong project management skills: Experience building schedules, managing critical paths, tracking risks and issues, coordinating resources, and aligning project execution with business objectives.
• Hardware development milestone experience: Familiarity with engineering validation, design validation, production validation, pilot builds, design transfer, and production ramp.
• Supplier and manufacturing experience: Experience coordinating with component suppliers, fabrication partners, contract manufacturers, or internal manufacturing teams.
• Documentation experience: The ability to create clear project plans, decision records, risk assessments, build-readiness reviews, meeting outcomes, and leadership updates.
• Leadership abilities and aspirations: You build trust, create accountability, facilitate difficult conversations, and help technical teams make effective decisions without relying solely on formal authority.
• Commitment to continual self-investment in product development: A track record of staying up to date with hardware-development practices, manufacturing technologies, project-management methods, and relevant industry trends.
• Alignment with Leadership: Ability to stay closely aligned with leadership (including the CEO) throughout the development process to ensure product vision and goals are met.
• Passion for Design and Sustainability: Strong passion for thoughtful product design, sustainability, and green building, integrating these values into project planning and decision-making.
It’s helpful to have
• Relevant product experience: Experience developing controllers, sensors, connected devices, embedded systems, building-automation equipment, industrial products, or other electromechanical systems.
• Technical knowledge: Familiarity with printed circuit board development, embedded firmware, mechanical design, tooling, enclosure development, and hardware test practices.
• Manufacturing and supply chain knowledge: Familiarity with bills of materials, component lifecycle management, long-lead procurement, cost targets, supplier management, and production ramp.
• Quality and compliance experience: Experience with regulatory certification, reliability testing, root-cause analysis, failure mode and effects analysis, design for manufacturing, design for test, or design for assembly.
